Since 1984, Reinhold Schonemund has been taking photographs in Ireland for a calendar he produces with the support of the Irish Tourist Board and corporate sponsors.  Robert Emmet Society member George Colburn met Schonemund recently at the home of Martin and Anne-Marie Peukert, German friends since the time of his Dublin college days in the mid-1960s.  The group talked about Ireland for several hours and before the night was over, Colburn and Schonemund concluded a deal to make the calendars available in the U.S. for the first time - and only to RES members and friends.

Schonemund's trips to Ireland usually take place in late spring, or early summer, and last about a month.  He travels in his own van, with only his dog as a companion.  He takes thousands of photos and then winnows the best down to the 12 that appear in the calendar.  Many of the best photos he takes in Ireland can be seen on his website (www.schonemund.de).  His camera is a Rolleiflex 6008 integral.
